Susan Chae Corcoran provides the firm with over 20 years of complex and commercial and civil litigation experience. She has extensive knowledge in the workup of her cases to achieve early resolution of highly sophisticated matters. She has defended Fortune 500 corporations as well as individuals in all types of corporate, civil, and commercial cases. Her trial experience includes premises, general negligence, breach of contract disputes, construction, automobile, insurance defense, and civil rights litigation.

As a hands-on trial lawyer, Ms. Corcoran is personally engaged in all of her litigation matters and takes pride in maintaining close contact with all of her individual and corporate clients.

Throughout her career, Ms. Corcoran has obtained defense verdicts on behalf of corporate and individual clients in construction, premises, civil rights and automobile cases. Her recent trial verdicts include the following:

In 2008, Ms. Corcoran was part of a lead defense team that obtained a favorable defense verdict in a multi-count civil rights complaint filed by 79 plaintiffs. After a 5-1/2 week jury trial in Federal Court, the Plaintiffs asked the jury for $21 million dollars. The jury found 6 of the 12 defendant officers not guilty, denied 55 plaintiffs’ claims, and awarded several plaintiffs monetary damages against only several officers, employees, and the municipality (defended by another law firm). In 2012, the US Court of Appeals affirmed the not guilty verdict in favor of the defendant police officers. (Duran v. Town of Cicero, et al.)

In 2011, Ms. Corcoran obtained a verdict in favor of a Chicago police officer wrongfully accused of excessive force and battery of a 16 year old student while performing security at the student’s school. In 2012, the student’s appeal was denied and the jury’s verdict finding in favor of the police officer was affirmed by the US Court of Appeals. (Griffin v. City of Chicago)

In 2012, Ms. Corcoran successfully handled a commercial breach of contract case for a corporate client and obtained a favorable defense verdict before Judge James Orel in Dupage County. (Lemont Plumbing, Inc v. CHI)

In November of 2015, Ms. Corcoran obtained a favorable defense verdict in an admitted liability road rage case. The then 25 year old truck driver plaintiff claimed past, present, & future medical bills (including a lumbar L5-S1 fusion surgery), past & future lost wages, past, present, & future pain & suffering, past, present, & future loss of normal life, permanency, future disfigurement (scar), and disability.

Plaintiff’s counsel asked for $2.8 million dollars after a 4 day jury trial. The Cook County jury awarded the plaintiff $5,980 after reducing the verdict ($9, 200) by 35% for plaintiff’s comparative negligence. Plaintiff’s counsel did not appeal the jury’s verdict. Kubik v. Cetera, tried Nov 13, 2015- Nov 18, 2015.

Ms. Corcoran is married with three children. She is actively involved with The Misericordia Womens League of Hinsdale, Autism Speaks, Muscular Dystrophy Association, and St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Womens Charity. Ms. Corcoran is also fluent in Korean.
