Defense Verdict Entered in Favor of Chrysler LLC in Products Liability Case
On August 1, 2008 a Southern District of Illinois Federal Court jury returned a defense verdict in favor of Chrysler LLC, which was represented by partner Ryan J. McQueeney.
Plaintiff Steven Freeland alleged that he suffered a disabling brain injury when a rear lift gate gas strut he was installing on a minivan exploded, discharging a metal rod which struck him on the forehead. Mr. Freeland claimed that he suffered from severe headaches, tremors, seizures, hearing loss, dizziness and problems with his balance and had been unable to work since August 18, 2000.
Plaintiff asked the jury to return a verdict in his favor in the amount of $1.8 million. The jury awarded the plaintiff $15,000, apportioning 80% of the liability to Arvinmeritor, Inc., the manufacturer of the gas strut, and 20% to Chrysler LLC.
Also representing Chrysler LLC was Brian Bell of Swanson Martin and Bell.
